Carragher applauds Everton boss Ancelotti for getting ‘Merseyside derby

JAMIE CARRAGHER has actually applauded Carlo Ancelotti for ‘getting the Merseyside derby right emotionally – even calling the Everton manager his Man of the Match.

The Toffees stunned Liverpool to win their first Merseyside derby video game at Anfield since 1999 with a 2-0 success.

And Carragher has stacked appreciation on Ancelotti for handling to put emotions aside, pick a brave group and head back across Stanley Park with all three points.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said: “I viewed the game once again and Everton’s Man of the Match was the manager.

” It’s been 22 years because they won there. Infamously Everton’s record at Anfield is horrendous.

” To win at Anfield for Everton is big and they celebrated like mad and deservedly so.

” Everton had only won six games there since 1960.”

Carragher continued by stating Ancelotti assisted motivate Everton to a calm, however definitive win – not enabling emotions to take over.

The Liverpool legend included: “Everton never ever get the derby right mentally.

” They’re either too up for it and they get gamers sent off. Or they enter into video games horrified.

” He took the emotion out of the video game with the team he picked.

” Evertonians, when that group was available in, their heart sank … no Calvert-Lewin and no Allan.

” Allan hasn’t played for two months and Calvert-Lewin is coming back from injury.

” It’s the right choice, but [it was brave] since emotionally the derby is the greatest game to win.

” Roberto Martinez told me a story one time where he practically felt forced to playing Gareth Barry when he wasn’t 100 per cent fit.

” He got injured, they lost the video game and he missed out on the FA Cup semi-final. He always looks back at that with regret.”
